Healthcare Psychology and Communication Skills is a core undergraduate textbook prepared for the B.Pharm curriculum under NEP 2020 (Subject Code BP103T). The book comprises five chapters: Introduction to Psychology in Healthcare; Developmental and Behavioural Psychology; Foundations of Health Communication; Professional Communication in Healthcare Settings; and Health Psychology and Behavioural Interventions.
Structural Features
Each chapter opens with a set of Learning Objectives stated in measurable terms, allowing students to identify in advance precisely what they are expected to know, explain, or apply by the end of the chapter. This orientation helps students direct their attention efficiently during study and provides a checklist against which they can assess their own preparation before an examination.
Within each chapter, discussion follows a consistent framework — introduction, conceptual discussion, significance, applications, and contemporary perspective — applied uniformly across topics. The Chapter Summary, Key Takeaways, and Key Terms provided at the close of each chapter are designed to assist students in consolidating what has been studied without needing to re-read the full chapter, making them particularly useful during examination revision. The graded Assessment section, comprising objective, shortanswer, and long-answer questions, gives students the opportunity to test recall, conceptual understanding, and analytical ability in formats that mirror common university examination patterns, thereby supporting both self-assessment and structured examination preparation.
Dr. Rahul S. Tade is an academician and researcher serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at H. R. Patel Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Shirpur, Maharashtra, India. He has 10 years of teaching experience in pharmaceutical sciences and has been actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, and academic development.
Dr. Tade’s research interests span pharmaceutics, advanced drug delivery systems, nanotechnology and cancer theranostics. His research contributions have resulted in more than 60 publications. His work reflects an interdisciplinary approach integrating pharmaceutical sciences with emerging technologies for biomedical and therapeutic applications.
In recognition of his research contributions, he received the 1st Prize in the PD Patil National Award for Best Ph.D. Thesis in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2023). He has also been awarded a ANRF Start-up Research Grant for breast cancer research.
As an educator, Dr. Tade emphasizes concept-based learning, scientific reasoning, research-oriented thinking and the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical pharmaceutical applications. His academic activities focus on developing scientifically rigorous and accessible learning resources that support students, researchers, and professionals in understanding emerging developments in pharmaceutical sciences.
Dr. Swapnil Nitin Jain is an academician and researcher serving as an Assistant Professor at H. R. Patel Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Shirpur, Maharashtra, India. He holds an M. Pharm. in Pharmaceutics and a Ph.D. and has more than 11 years of teaching experience in pharmaceutical education. His academic and professional activities encompass teaching, research, postgraduate research supervision, and institutional academic responsibilities.
His research interests are primarily centered on pharmaceutics, formulation development, controlled and targeted drug delivery, novel drug delivery systems, polymer-based pharmaceutical formulations, and formulation optimization. He has published research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to books in the areas of pharmaceutical and drug-delivery sciences. He has also received a research grant under the Vice- Chancellor Research Motivation Scheme for work on colon-specific drug delivery and has supervised several M. Pharm. research scholars.
As an educator and researcher, Dr. Jain emphasizes concept-based learning, scientific reasoning, research-oriented education, and the practical application of pharmaceutical principles. His academic efforts are directed towards strengthening students' understanding of fundamental and emerging concepts in pharmaceutical sciences while encouraging research aptitude, analytical thinking, and responsible professional practice.
