It gives us immense pleasure to present General Pharmacy (Theory), a comprehensive textbook prepared in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the latest syllabus prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), New Delhi, for B. Pharm First Year (I Semester) students.
General Pharmacy is one of the fundamental subjects in pharmacy education and provides students with a strong foundation in the basic concepts, principles, and practices of the pharmacy profession. The subject introduces students to the history and development of pharmacy, the role and responsibilities of pharmacists, pharmacopoeias, prescription handling, pharmaceutical calculations, dosage forms, routes of drug administration, pharmaceutical ingredients, and other essential aspects of pharmaceutical sciences. A clear understanding of these fundamentals is important for developing the knowledge and skills required for subsequent subjects and professional practice.
This book has been carefully designed to meet the academic requirements of undergraduate pharmacy students while also serving as a useful reference for teachers and other learners. Every effort has been made to present the subject matter in a simple, clear, systematic, and student-friendly manner. Fundamental concepts have been explained using appropriate examples, tables, & diagrams.
The contents of this book have been systematically organized according to the prescribed syllabus, covering the important topics essential for building a strong foundation in pharmacy. At the end of the chapters, important questions have been included to help students strengthen their conceptual understanding, improve their answer-writing skills, and prepare effectively for university examinations.

Mr. Hakim Singh Rajput is an Associate Professor, accomplished academician, researcher, and author in the field of Pharmacy, with a specialization in Pharmaceutics. He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) from SRIP College, Datia, Madhya Pradesh, followed by a Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm.) in Pharmaceutics from NRI College of Pharmacy, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. from Oriental University, Indore.Mr. Rajput has more than 8 years of teaching experience in the Department of Pharmaceutics. His academic interests include pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical sciences, formulation development, and related areas of pharmacy education and research.He has contributed to the field of pharmaceutical research through the publication of several research and review papers in reputed national and international journals. He has also authored six books in the field of Pharmacy, contributing to the academic development of pharmacy students and professionals.In recognition of his contribution to academic publishing, he was honoured with the “Best Book Author Award” at the 5th National Editors Summit 2023.Currently, Mr. Hakim Singh Rajput is working as an Associate Professor at IPSR Group of Institutions, Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, located on the Lucknow–Kanpur Express Highway. Through his teaching, research, and academic writing, he continues to contribute to the advancement of pharmaceutical education and research.
Ms. Richa Shakya is an Assistant Professor at the Sharda School of Pharmacy, Sharda University, Agra, with over 9.5 years of experience in Academics. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from G.L.A. University, Mathura.She has authored textbooks in Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and Human Anatomy . Physiology Her academic achievements include receiving the Bharat Gaurav Shiksha Puruskar for outstanding contribution in the pharmaceutical field, First Prize for Best Paper Presentation in IJPER. She has also contributed to AKTU MOOCs lectures.Through her teaching, research, and innovation, Ms. Shakya is committed to advancing pharmaceutical education, promoting scientific inquiry, and developing effective therapeutic approaches for healthcare challenges.
Ms. Mariyam Khatoon obtained her Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from Amity University, Lucknow, and completed her Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) in Pharmaceutics from Integral University, Lucknow. She has over three years of teaching experience in pharmaceutical education and is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, Sohramau, Unnao. Throughout her academic career, she has contributed to the field of pharmaceutical sciences through the publication of several research and review articles in reputed national and international journals. Her areas of academic and research interest include pharmaceutics, novel drug delivery systems, pharmaceutical technology, and pharmaceutical research. She remains dedicated to advancing pharmacy education and fostering research-oriented learning among students.
Ms. Shrashti Agarwal is an academician and pharmacy professional specializing in Pharmaceutics. She completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Pharmacy in 2022. She completed her Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm.) with specialization in Pharmaceutics from the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research, Sohramau, Unnao, and graduated in 2025.Ms. Agarwal is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research, Sohramau, Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, India. She has one year of teaching experience and is actively involved in pharmacy education and academic activities.Her area of academic specialization is Pharmaceutics, with an interest in pharmaceutical sciences, formulation development, and pharmacy education. She is committed to contributing to the academic and professional development of pharmacy students through teaching and scholarly activities.
