Oral cancer is a global challenge with high burden on the society and family. Increasing incidence of oral cancer to be reduced by awareness to the general public. There is need for the health workers around the world also to be updated on recent advances in oral cancer. Keeping the above reasons in mind, the book comprising of various issues pertaining to oral cancer is written. When it comes to oral cancer management, two important issues have to be considered – diagnosis and management. Diagnosis of oral cancer has come a big way from basics to advanced non invasive and invasive methods. Early diagnosis of oral cancer plays a vital role in the management of oral cancer. It is the accurate or precise diagnosis which will help the clinician to make appropriate decisions on the management protocol. First four chapters helps the clinician to understand etiology or risk factors, various ways to classify oral cancer and its clinical presentation. Staging of oral cancer is a crucial step in diagnosis as it reports to the oncologist. On the basis of staging, surgeon will decide the treatment protocol. Decision is made on the customized treatment protocol for each of the patients. Final chapters comprise of numerous methods of diagnosis. It deals with several methods from basic to advance. It may be chosen based on the circumstances and availability of materials. Hence this book will be useful to clinicians and researchers in the field of Oral medicine. Undergraduates and postgraduate information and knowledge will be enhanced. We all look forward to future developments in diagnosis paradigms that will lead to even better outcomes for patients with oral cancers, and this textbook will serve as an important point of reference for these future advancements.
Dr. Mahesh K P, is currently working as associate professor in Oral Medicine and Radiology, JSS Dental College and Hospital, JSSAHER deemed to be university, Mysore, Karnataka, India. He is involved in teaching undergraduates, post graduates and Phd scholars. He is active researcher and area of interest is oral oncology and orofacial pain. He is also leader of special interest group in orofacial pain. He did is basic education from Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore and Post-graduation from SDM Dental College, Dharwad, Karnataka.
He has around 35 publications in various National and International Journals with high impact factor. He has a book authored on Insight to Orofacial Pain in the year 2015. Recently three of his research was published in Indian patent office He is awarded by Asia Pacific young achiever award in the education sector by Belgave Education Pvt. Ltd. in the year 2021.
Dr. Karthikeya Patil, Currently working as Professor and Head in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, JSS Dental College and Hospital, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, Karnataka. Sir has been working in JSS Dental College and Hospital for the past 26 years. He was the former Vice Principal of JSS Dental College and Hospital in the year 2010-2012. Active member of Academic council board of studies for post graduate and various other disciplinary boards in the JSS Academy of Higher Education. He has completed his BDS and MDS from Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davengere, Karnataka. Presently has around 180 publications in various National and International Journals. Author of three books.
Dr. Aparna Vijayan M, Post Graduate Research Scholar in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, JSS Dental College and Hospital, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, Karnataka. Area of interest is oral oncology, orofacial pain and advanced imaging. BDS from Sree Mookambika Institute of Dental Sciences, Dr. MGR Medical University, Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Naveen Kumar R K, Professor of Oral Pathology from Farooqia Dental College, Mysuru. He finished his postgraduation from SDM Dental College, Dharwad, Karnataka. A highly talented, motivational educator keen in teaching and a highly professional practitioner. He has many publication to his credit. His area of interest is bone pathology, oncology. He is specialized in immunohistochemistry for various pathologies in oral conditions.
